I’ve heard that the waters are quite polluted with plastic and I still want to visit but I want to join a cleanup crew or volunteer organization to help collect floating debris for 2-3days. I see many articles mentioning cleanup efforts online but cannot find one to contact or inquire with. Can anyone recommend a specific business or nonprofit that organizes volunteer cleanup crews? Hi, I don't know if such groups exist but the boat I was on had stable kayaks and my son and I just paddled out and picked up rubbish as we paddled around and I would expect that kayaking would be available each day if you extended your stay a few more days. The Vietnamese Government has made some efforts to clean up Halong Bay over years and have banned some products. It may have been the tides but when we were there there was rubbish but it wasn't terrible. The place is pretty and definitely worth seeing and the Vietnamese people are very obliging. Just a Tip I was told re Tipping. One US Dollar was about 20 Dong. If you are going to Tip don't Tip below 1 US Dollar. There is smaller Dong Currencies and you will get used to large bills that in the end are not huge on conversion. Regards Robert
