Cosentyx is a brand-name injection that’s prescribed for plaque psoriasis and certain kinds of arthritis. Cosentyx contains the active drug secukinumab and belongs to the monoclonal antibody drug class. Cosentyx is FDA-approved to treat: moderate to severe plaque psoriasis in certain adults and children ages 6 years and older

Cosentyx is approved to treat plaque psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis (PsA) in some people. It’s also approved for other uses. For plaque psoriasis, doctors may prescribe Cosentryx to adults and children ages 6 years and older. For PsA, they may prescribe Cosentyx to adults and children ages 2 years and older.

A biologic is a protein-based medication that is made from living sources and is taken by injection or infusion. COSENTYX is designed to target and block IL-17A, which is believed to play a role in inflammation that causes psoriasis plaques and joint pain in people with psoriatic arthritis.

For people with plaque psoriasis, Cosentyx is administered by injection under the skin at weeks 0, 1, 2, 3, and 4 and then every 4 weeks. Health care providers may recommend a different dosing schedule for patients with PsA. Cosentyx is also available as an intravenous (IV) infusion for adults with PsA.
