Select the rows you want to group together by clicking the row numbers. Press SHIFT+ALT+Right Arrow (➜). You will see the following result. To hide the grouped rows, click on the negative icon left of the row numbers. If you select a range of cells instead, you must confirm whether to group rows or columns.

You can create more than one group in a sheet. You can also create subgroups or use the subtotal feature to both group and add calculations. To create a subgroup, expand the parent group and then follow the same steps as above to select and group rows.

Within any group, you can outline multiple groups at inner levels. To create an inner, nested group of columns, this is what you need to do: Select the columns to be included in the inner group. On the Data tab, in the Outline group, click Group. Or press the Shift + Alt + Right Arrow shortcut.

To create a nested (or inner) group, select all detail rows above the related summary row, and click the Group button. For example, to create the Apples group within the East region, select rows 2 and 3, and hit Group. To make the Oranges group, select rows 5 through 7, and press the Group button again.
