Investigators discovered a leaking gas line in the basement of the home, according to Indiana State Fire Marshal Steve Jones, who conducted a joint investigation with the Evansville Fire Department.

On Nov. 2, just under three months after the explosion. the Indiana State Fire Marshal ruled the explosion "accidental." According to the fire marshal, investigators discovered a "leaking gas line in the basement of the home."
