- Merge cells
You can combine two or more table cells located in the same row or column into a single cell.
Select the cells to merge.
On the table's Layout tab, select Merge Cells in the Merge group
Select one or more cells to split.
On the table's Layout tab, select Split Cells in the Merge group
Enter the number of columns or rows that you want to split the selected cells into.
Tip If your table doesn't have borders, you can turn on gridlines. Select anywhere in the table, and on the Layout tab next to the Table Design tab, choose View Gridlines.
